Custom Illustration and Design can take many forms and have many uses, and while Illustration and Graphic Design are separate skills, they often dovetail, and the disciplines required for each merge to create a completed design or project.
While nearly every package or label requires some level of graphic design, in order to draw a customer’s attention to the information being communicated on the surface, sometimes an illustration is required to help tell a story of the product; be it the product’s use, the user’s experience, or the concept behind the product. Illustrations may take the form of: completed original designs, conceptual illustrations, product renderings, use-and-care illustrations, and many more. They can find themselves being utilized for: Brand Identity, package designs, books, marketing materials, production realization, websites and social media.

What follows are three case studies, each of differing scope, challenge, and solution:
Client: Dantex Group
Partnering with Dantex Group, a print-plate manufacturer, and Premier Printing Solutions, an east-coast, leading print shop, we were given the assignment to create an eye-catching label that would be produced as a marketing piece showcasing all three firms.
The design needed to be eye-catching, able to be printed on a variety of substrates, and different plate types. It also needed to be of a detailed nature, to help showcase the capabilities of both, the plates and the print house.
Taking inspiration from the illustrated, design-oriented labels currently dominating the beer industry, our illustrators worked up several concept sketches.
One was chosen, and a fully digitally-painted illustration of the Kraken rose from the depths.
Result: Upon seeing this marketing piece at a trade-show, a brewery expressed interest in its use and has contracted Tek Solutions with providing more designs with a high potential for market placement.
